Your Website Content: Answering the 6 Most Important Questions

Writing your content without the assistance of a copywriter can be a challenge for business owners that:
- Are not comfortable with writing.
- Do not enjoy writing.
- Do not have the time to document their ideas and thoughts.
As they say “content is king”. Compelling content is the key to engaging your website visitors, generating leads and making the sale. A website visitor will remain on your site an average of 10 seconds. This is not a lot of time to introduce yourself and your business.
TIP: Always consider the questions that your potential customers will need to answer before making a decision to purchase.
The following exercise may be helpful in writing an effective introduction for yourself and your business. Start with your call to action statement, and then add the supporting details by asking 6 basic questions: What? Who? How? Where? When? Why?
WHAT
- What can you do for me?
- What are your prices (if applicable)?
- What additional information can you give me about <services/products>?
- What makes you so special?
WHO
- Who are you?
- Who have you worked with previously?
HOW
- How do I make a payment?
- How do I sign-up for <your newsletter or your service>?
- How do I contact you?
WHERE
- Where are you/your offices located?
- Where can I obtain more details?
WHEN
- When are you available/open?
- When is a good time to call?
WHY
- Why should I purchase from you?
- Why do I need this service?
- Why are you in business?
Call to Action: A statement that describes the action you want your visitors to take. Should be concise and should compel your visitors to do something (subscribe, donate, call, buy, contact).
Write your first draft using natural language. Then, plan to correct spelling and grammatical errors and edit the language before publishing the text on your website. Remember that you have less than 10 seconds to grab the readers’ attention and compel them to learn more.

Great post! Of course at some point web owners won’t find enough time to create their own quality content. Availing web content services offered by professional companies isn’t a bad idea if you consider it.
I agree Phillip! In my experience web/business owners are busy (understatement). LOL. Using content development providers and writing services is certainly an option for those without the time, skill or motivation to write. However, the best content reflects the vision & passion of the business owners.
